Makalu Base CampTrek

  • 18 Days - 17 nights

Come take the Makalu Base Camp Trek with us! It is a two-week journey into some of Nepal’s last true wildernesses. In fact, because so few people inhabit the area, there are no teahouses. Most of the nights we sleep under the stars, encompassed by the grandiose Himalayas. The remote out-and-back trail takes us to the base camp of Makalu (8463 meters), the fifth highest mountain in the world. The Makalu Base Camp (4870 meters) path blesses visitors with heart-stopping views of Mount Everest (8848 meters), Lhotse (8516 meters), and more of the world’s highest peaks. It is a truly unique adventure for those seeking solitude and an escape from the popular trekking routes in the Annapurna and Everest regions.

The fabulous mountain views are complemented with an always-exciting hike through the well-protected Makalu-Barun National Park. Here, over 3000 species of flowering plants are found, providing more than a breath of fresh air. Also, keep an eye out for some of the rare animal species along the way, including the snow leopard, red panda, musk deer, and bharal (blue sheep).

The unforgettable journey to Makalu Base Camp begins from Num after a flight from Tumlingtar. Traversing through picturesque terraced hills, quaint villages, and teeming forests, we arrive to Makalu Base Camp, and spend an extra day there just to explore and see the beauty that envelopes it. Take a hike to Barun Pokhari (4950 meters), a lake that seems just too impossibly high to exist. It is beyond amazing! After spending time at each sweet viewpoint and exploring around Makalu Base Camp, we head back down along the same trail, getting to spend some extra time checking out places we passed on the way up.

Remember, this trek involves camping each night. For lovers of the outdoors, this trek is perfect for you! People of all experience levels can take the journey, but be willing to sacrifice some luxuries of your everyday life for a true Himalayan adventure. Leave some of your attachments aside for a few weeks and let the mountain trail guide you. You will begin to find beauty in even the smallest things. You won’t regret taking the Makalu Base Camp Trek!

Each day is beautiful and distinct from the one before and after. Live in the present and enjoy this wonderful trek! You truly will not find another one like it!

The Makalu Base CampTrek can be taken anytime of the year. Be aware of the climate of Nepal, though. Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are the best seasons for clear weather and mountain views. However, the rainy (monsoon) season and the winter are nice because there are fewer tourists. Daewoo Travels & Tours Pvt. Ltd. handles the complete with complete management. Let us know if you have any questions or concerns!

Most of the day is spent climbing the steep incline to Khongma. For many, it’s the most challenging day of the trek, but well worth it.Take it slow and check in with yourself to make sure you are not suffering from the signs of AMS (Altitude Mountain Sickness) too dangerously. The day begins with an ascent through forests until the trailflattens out next to a ridge. The flat trail is brief. It then becomes steeper and rockier before we arrive to Unshisha – a small, marshy meadow at 3180 meters. More upward climbing leads us up to Khongma, today’s destination. There are trails on both sides of the valley, but we stay on the eastern side. After a couple of hours, we find ourselves at Makalu Base Camp, in a fortress of Himalayan peaks.
