Trekkers' Information Management System (TIMS)
* Trekker's Information Management System (TIMS) charges are applicable for foreign trekkers in different trekking routes in Nepal.
* TIMS cards should be collected by both free individual trekkers (FIT) and trekkers taking the service of government -authorized trekking agencies.
*Based on the data collected through TIMS cards, it will be possible to know the position of a trekker in case a rescue operation when needed.
* The provision of TIMS came into effect on January 1, 2008 in Nepal. Since then, the Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal and Nepal Tourism Board started recording trekkers details and began issuing TIMS Card to trekkers.
*FITs need to have Green TIMS card by paying Nepali NRs.2000 [per person while those traveling in groups need to have Blue TIMS Card by paying Nepali Currency NRs, 1000 per person.
* Trekkers taking the service of trekking agencies can pay fee for TIMS Card in US dollar. Citizen from SAARC countries wil have to pay Nepali currency NRs. 600 for FIT and Nepali currency NRs 300 for group TIMS. SARC Nationals will have red colored TIMS Card.
Where and how to obtain a TIMS Card?
Free individual Trekkers (FITs): FITs can obtain TIMS cards at the office of Nepal Tourism Board in Kathmandu and Pokhara.
* Oganized Trekkers: Trekking companies will collect trekkers data and enter it in the central database and will provide trekkers with a TIMS Card after paying fee prescribed above.
* Document reqired: To receive TIMS Card you need copy of passport, two PP size photographs.
